Bio

I am a PhD student @GSU Cologne and research fellow @UniRegensburg.

I explore new ways to assess human physical activity based on small movement sensors placed on the thigh. I studied Sports and Health Sciences in Cologne, Munich and Copenhagen. I enjoy what I do! Until recently, I worked as a visiting researcher at the AUT Human Potential Centre in Auckland, New Zealand.

Three things I like:

  • Franzbrötchen and Fritz-Kola.

  • Getting lost in my R and Python code. And finding my way out!

  • Riding my bike and climbing walls.

Things I am currently working on:

  • Developing a new approach to estimate energy expenditure during physical activity using thigh-worn accelerometers [IJBNPA - 2024].

  • Developing a machine learning approach for walking sequence detection and gait event detection during free-living walking using Keras/Python [GitHub].

  • Validating different existing activity classification algorithms using thigh-worn accelerometers [IJBNPA - 2024 | JPAH - 2024].

  • Finishing up with my PhD.
